What is an Age Calculator?

An Age Calculator works out your precise age from a single date of birth — not just a rounded "34 years old", but the exact number of complete years, months, and days you've lived, plus a running total-day count. Enter your DOB, hit calculate, and the tool instantly does the calendar arithmetic that would otherwise mean counting leap years and month lengths by hand.

How the Calculation Works

The calculator takes today's date and your date of birth and subtracts them component by component — years, then months, then days — borrowing from the next higher unit whenever a component goes negative (exactly like long subtraction). This correctly accounts for months of different lengths (28–31 days) and leap years, which a simple "divide days by 365" shortcut would get wrong.

Years = ThisYear − BirthYear
Months = ThisMonth − BirthMonth (borrow 12 if negative)
Days = ThisDay − BirthDay (borrow days-in-previous-month if negative)
Total Days Lived = (Today − DOB) ÷ 86,400,000 ms

Worked Example

Suppose your date of birth is 15 August 1990 and today's date is 5 July 2026:

  • Full years elapsed: 2026 − 1990 = 36, but since 5 July falls before the 15 August anniversary, one year hasn't completed yet → 35 years
  • Remaining months and days after the last birthday (15 Aug 2025) work out to 10 months, 20 days
  • Final result: 35 years, 10 months, 20 days
  • Total days lived: 13,108 days
