What is a Discount Calculator?

Flipkart's Big Billion Days, Amazon's Great Indian Festival, or the neighbourhood shop's Diwali sale board screaming "FLAT 30% OFF" — discounts are everywhere, but mental maths under pressure isn't everyone's strong suit. This calculator takes the marked price (MRP) of an item and the discount percentage on offer, then instantly tells you the amount you save and the final price you'll actually pay at checkout.

Discount Formula

Amount Saved = Original Price × (Discount % ÷ 100)
Final Price = Original Price − Amount Saved

Worked Example

Imagine a jacket listed at an MRP of ₹2,500 during a sale offering 30% off.

Amount Saved = 2,500 × (30 ÷ 100) = ₹750
Final Price = 2,500 − 750 = ₹1,750

You'd pay ₹1,750 at checkout and pocket a saving of ₹750. Many Indian e-commerce sales stack a flat discount with an extra bank card offer or coupon code — in those cases, work out the first discount, then apply the second discount on the already-reduced price rather than adding both percentages together, since that gives a different, usually smaller, final price.

💡 Tip: Watch out for "up to X% off" banners — they usually apply the highest discount to only a few items in the sale. Always check the exact percentage shown against your specific product before calculating your savings.

Festive sale season in India — Diwali, Dussehra, Republic Day, and end-of-season clearance sales — is when discount percentages tend to be steepest, but MRPs on some products are also quietly marked up beforehand so the "discount" looks bigger than it really is. It helps to check the price history on the same platform, or compare across two or three sellers, before assuming a listed MRP is genuine. This calculator is equally handy for markets, wholesale bulk buying, or negotiating with a local shopkeeper, since you can quickly test what a proposed discount percentage actually works out to in rupees before agreeing to a deal.
