What is Ratio Calculator?

A ratio compares two quantities, but a ratio like 24:36 is hard to read at a glance — it's much clearer once reduced to its simplest form, 2:3. This calculator takes any two numbers and reduces them to their lowest equivalent terms, the same way you'd simplify a fraction, which is useful whenever you're scaling a recipe, mixing construction materials, splitting a bill, or dividing profits between business partners.

Simplifying a Ratio

To simplify a ratio a:b, both numbers are divided by their Greatest Common Divisor (GCD):

Simplified Ratio = (a ÷ GCD) : (b ÷ GCD)

Worked Example

Simplify the ratio 24:36.

The Greatest Common Divisor of 24 and 36 is 12 (the largest number that divides both exactly).

24 ÷ 12 = 2, 36 ÷ 12 = 3 → Simplified ratio = 2:3

So 24:36 and 2:3 represent exactly the same proportion, just expressed with smaller numbers.
