What is a Concrete Calculator?

A Concrete Calculator works out the volume of concrete (in cubic metres) needed for a slab, foundation, or floor bed, and estimates how many 50 kg cement bags that translates to. This is one of the first calculations any Indian homeowner or site supervisor does before pouring an RCC roof slab, a driveway, or a foundation footing — getting the volume wrong risks running out of concrete mid-pour (which weakens a slab with cold joints) or over-ordering ready-mix and wasting money.

Formula

Volume (m³) = Length (m) × Width (m) × [ Thickness (cm) ÷ 100 ]
Cement Bags = ROUND UP [ Volume ÷ 0.035 ]

Thickness is entered in centimetres (e.g. a 15 cm or 12.5 cm RCC roof slab) and divided by 100 to convert to metres before multiplying. The bag estimate assumes roughly 0.035 m³ of finished concrete per 50 kg cement bag — a simplified planning figure; your site engineer will refine this based on the exact mix ratio (commonly M20 = 1:1.5:3) used for structural work.

Worked Example

For a slab that is 5 m long, 4 m wide, and 15 cm thick:

Volume = 5 × 4 × (15 ÷ 100) = 5 × 4 × 0.15 = 3 m³
Bags = ROUND UP [ 3 ÷ 0.035 ] = ROUND UP [ 85.71 ] = 86 bags

So a 5×4 m room needing a 15 cm thick slab requires about 3 m³ of concrete and roughly 86 bags of 50 kg cement as a rough material-planning figure — always confirm final quantities with your civil contractor before ordering.
