What is a Fuel Cost Calculator?
A Fuel Cost Calculator tells you exactly how much petrol, diesel, or CNG a journey will cost, using your vehicle's mileage and the current fuel price. Since Indian fuel prices vary state-to-state (VAT differs across states, so the same trip can cost noticeably more in Maharashtra than in a neighbouring state), this is a genuinely useful budgeting tool before an inter-city drive, a daily office commute estimate, or a cab/logistics cost calculation.
Formula
Fuel Cost (โน) = Fuel Needed (Litres) ร Fuel Price (โน/L)
Worked Example
Suppose you're driving 200 km, your car gives 15 km/L, and petrol is priced at โน104/L:
Fuel Cost = 13.33 ร 104 = โน1,386.67
So a 200 km trip in a car averaging 15 km/L at โน104/litre would cost approximately โน1,386.67 in fuel alone โ useful when comparing against train or bus fares, or when splitting costs with co-passengers.
How to Use This Calculator
- Enter the total distance of your trip in kilometres (one-way or round trip, as needed).
- Enter your vehicle's mileage in km/L โ use the Mileage Calculator if you don't know it precisely.
- Enter today's fuel price per litre (check your nearest pump or fuel company app for the latest rate).
- Click Calculate to see the fuel needed and total cost.
Things to Know
- Highway driving typically improves mileage by 15-20% over city driving, so use a slightly higher mileage figure for highway-heavy trips.
- CNG-run vehicles should enter the CNG price per kg and their CNG-specific mileage (km/kg) rather than petrol figures.
- For a full trip budget including tolls and food, use the Trip Cost Calculator.
