What is a Trip Cost Calculator?

A Trip Cost Calculator adds up the full real cost of a road trip — fuel, toll charges, and food/miscellaneous expenses — into a single all-in-one number. This is a practical planning tool for Indian road trips on national highways, where FASTag toll plazas are frequent, and where comparing "drive vs fly vs train" often comes down to knowing the true, total driving cost rather than just the fuel bill.

Formula

Fuel Cost (₹) = (Distance ÷ Mileage) × Fuel Price
Total Trip Cost (₹) = Fuel Cost + Toll Charges + Food & Misc

Worked Example

For a 500 km highway trip, in a car averaging 15 km/L, with fuel at ₹104/L, ₹200 in tolls, and ₹500 budgeted for food:

Fuel Cost = (500 ÷ 15) × 104 = 33.33 × 104 = ₹3,466.67
Total Trip Cost = 3,466.67 + 200 + 500 = ₹4,166.67

So a 500 km road trip works out to roughly ₹4,167 all-in — useful when splitting costs between co-passengers, or comparing against a train/bus ticket for the same route.

💡 Tip: On Indian expressways and national highways, toll charges can add up fast on long trips — a Delhi-to-Jaipur drive alone can involve 3-4 toll plazas. Always check the route's toll total on a map/toll app before departure so your budget isn't a surprise.
  • This calculator doesn't include vehicle wear-and-tear, parking, or overnight stays — add those separately for multi-day trips.
  • Highway mileage is usually better than city mileage, so use your vehicle's highway-driving km/L figure, not its city average, for a more accurate fuel estimate.
