What is a Split Bill Calculator?

The Split Bill Calculator divides a total restaurant or group bill — including an optional tip — equally among any number of people. It's built for group dinners, trips, and shared subscriptions where everyone wants to pay a fair, identical share without anyone doing manual division at the table.

Formula

Total With Tip = Bill + (Bill × Tip % ÷ 100)
Amount Per Person = Total With Tip ÷ Number of People

Worked Example

Total Bill: ₹2,400 · People: 4 · Tip: 10%

Tip = 2,400 × 10 ÷ 100 = ₹240
Total With Tip = 2,400 + 240 = ₹2,640
Per Person = 2,640 ÷ 4 = ₹660

If a fifth friend joins last minute, the same ₹2,640 total splits into ₹528 per person instead of ₹660 — a saving of ₹132 each, simply by adding one more person to split with.

How to Use This Calculator

  1. Enter the total bill amount in ₹.
  2. Enter the number of people sharing the bill.
  3. Enter a tip percentage, if any (leave blank or 0 if no tip is being added).
  4. Click Calculate to see the total with tip and the amount each person owes.
💡 Tip: This calculator assumes an equal split. If people ordered very different amounts — say, someone had drinks and others didn't — it's often fairer to work out individual item costs separately and only split shared items like starters or the service charge equally.

Things to Know

  • The more people you add, the lower each individual share — always double-check the head count before finalising payments.
  • Leaving the tip field at 0 gives you a straightforward equal split of the raw bill with no gratuity added.
  • Rounding differences of a rupee or two are common when splitting an odd total evenly — decide in advance who covers the extra paisa.

For tip-only calculations without splitting, see our Tip Calculator, or check the Average Calculator to average spending across a group over multiple outings.
