What is a Tip Calculator?
The Tip Calculator works out how much tip (gratuity) to leave at a restaurant, cafe, or for any service, and splits the total bill evenly among any number of people. Tipping culture is growing in Indian restaurants, hotels, and cab or food-delivery services, and this tool removes the mental math of calculating 10% or 15% of an odd bill amount like ₹1,847.
Formula
Total Bill = Bill + Tip Amount
Amount Per Person = Total Bill ÷ Number of People
Worked Example
Bill: ₹1,500 · Tip: 10% · People: 2
Total Bill = 1,500 + 150 = ₹1,650
Per Person = 1,650 ÷ 2 = ₹825
If you increase the tip to 15% on the same ₹1,500 bill, the tip becomes ₹225, the total becomes ₹1,725, and each of the 2 people would owe ₹862.50 — a difference of just ₹37.50 per person for a noticeably better tip to the staff.
How to Use This Calculator
- Enter the total bill amount in ₹.
- Enter the tip percentage you want to leave (e.g. 10, 15, or 20).
- Enter the number of people splitting the bill.
- Click Calculate to see the tip amount, total bill, and amount per person.
Things to Know
- Tip percentage is always calculated on the pre-tip bill amount, never on the total after tip is added.
- If you leave the "Number of People" field blank, the calculator treats it as 1 and shows the full total as the per-person amount.
- Rounding to the nearest rupee is common practice when the per-person share works out to an odd decimal value.
